RIP NEIL PEART – Le batteur de RUSH est mort d'un cancer du cerveau à 67 ans. Neil est décédé le 7 janvier à Santa Monica, en Californie d’un cancer du cerveau.
Cela a été confirmé par son manager personnel, Elliot Mintz et Meg Symsyk, porte-parole des médias de Rush.
Les fans savaient que Neil souffrait d'arthrite, une affection très courante pour les batteurs percutants. C'est la raison invoquée pour l’arrêt de Rush après la fin de la tournée R40 à Los Angeles le 1er août 2015.
Et ce n'était pas seulement qu'il avait pris sa retraite de Rush, dit Geddy Lee, mais qu'il «avait arreté la batterie».
Peart avait rejoint Rush en 1974, en remplacement de John Rutsey. Tôt dans sa carrière, il ancre son style dans le hard rock. Son inspiration vient en grande partie des batteurs sur le devant de la scène britannique, comme Keith Moon et John Bonham . Au fur et à mesure des années, il oriente son style vers le jazz dans la lignée de Gene Krupa et Buddy Rich.
Neil Peart a reçu de nombreuses récompenses pour ses performances musicales et est réputé pour ses talents techniques et son énergie . Il a aussi publié plusieurs livres au sujet de ses voyages
Peart avait annoncé sa retraite dans une interview en décembre 2015 : « Dernièrement, Olivia m'a présenté à de nouveaux amis à l'école comme «Mon père - c'est un batteur à la retraite». C'est vrai, c’était drôle à entendre. Et cela ne me fait pas de mal de réaliser que, comme tous les athlètes, il arrive un moment pour ... vous sortir du jeu. Je préférais arrêter plutôt que d'affronter la situation difficile décrite dans notre chanson «Losing It» ...
Peart souffrait de tendinite chronique et de problèmes d'épaule. En janvier 2018, Alex Lifeson a confirmé que Rush était «pratiquement terminé».
Peart est décédé d'un cancer du cerveau le 7 janvier 2020 à Santa Monica en Californie.
