Ana Popovic a déménagé d'Amsterdam à Memphis pour enregistrer
"Can You Stand The Heat" dans les studios Ardent. «Je voulais capturer la chaleur de l'été à Memphis», dit Popovic. L'album met en vedette certains des meilleurs musiciens de Memphis, y compris
Tony Coleman (batteur de
BB King), avec qui Popovic a co-produit l'album.
Popovic a grandi à Belgrade pendant le régime de Milosevic en ex-Yougoslavie. Elle a découvert la collection blues/soul américaine de son père et pris sa première guitare quand elle avait 15 ans.
Elle a formé un groupe et joué dans une centaine de concerts par an à l'âge de 20 ans, devenant l'une des très rares femmes à jouer de la guitare blues dans son pays. Depuis, elle a partagé la scène avec
BB King,
Buddy Guy,
Solomon Burke et d'autres...
