In some contexts, lyrics like “Let me jump into your Continental/Not a rental” would be grounds for charges of crimes against taste, class, and wit. But if you’re worried about such things, you’re not gonna get Queen V anyway. The New York axewoman’s latest full-length, which features cameos from Tom Morello, Vernon Reid, and – most righteously – Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister, is about little more (and nothing less) than overcoming the mundane with power chords and a sexy, sweet wail. If you surrender to that, you’ll find real beauty in the longing “Good Enough” and redemption in the lusty “My Machine.” And if you don’t, you’re probably sitting around listening to Pavement reissues.
