 FROM THE INSIDE

Interview with Danny Vaughn (lead vocals + guitar).

[by Laurent]

What a pleasure to see you back with a new project. Could you tell me the beginning of From The Inside ?
Danny Vaughn:
Thank you very much, Laurent. This new cd has already gotten a lot of very exciting attention and I'm really pleased with it. It started with Frontiers records. They have done similar projects like this with Kelly Hansen and Steve Walsh, where they put together a group of songs around a particular singer. Serafino very kindly approached me saying that I was always one of his favorite singers (that was nice of him!) and asked if I would be interested. I listened to what he had done in the past and got very intrigued by the idea. I have always done my own songs, and to work on an album whose bulk would be written by outside writers was a real new challenge. And I love a challenge!

Some of your songs sound like Tyketto's, do you agree with that ? Who wrote the tracks ?
There are a number of various writers that include Desmond Child, Mr. Stenmarck, and several of Nashville's finest along with my own efforts on "Is There Anybody Watching Me", "Blessing In Disguise", and "Speaking In Tongues"(only on the Japanese version, I'm afraid). I also cowrote the songs "Nothing At All", and "Always". I don't know which ones you think sound like Tyketto (and that's not a bad thing) but "Is There Anybody Watching Me" was actually written for Tyketto and we even demoed it way back when for the "Strength In Numbers" album. But it got put aside in favor of other songs.

You chose to sing Amanda Marshall's great song "beautiful good bye", how come ?
That was the song that convinced me to do the project. Some of the songs they presented left me uneasy. We picked through over 25 songs to come up with this set. But "Beautiful Goodbye" grabbed me right from the start. It's a real singer's song. Which means it leaves us a lot of room to show off! :-)

Do you like what she does or you only like that song ?
I love Amanda Marshall! I think she is an incredible talent. I never set out, as some people do, to do a better version of her song. I don't think that is possible. My only hope is that I did it justice.

What kind of relation have you got with Frontiers Records ?
This cd is what I call my first date with Frontiers. So far, they are all that I could have hoped for. Very straight and up front with me on everything. I'm hoping to do a Vaughn cd with them next year.

What would you say about the time you played in Tyketto's band ?
About Tyketto? Where do you want me to start? For the upcoming reunion tour, we are putting together a very special tour book that will cover the whole history of the band from the beginning and take you through the "Don't Come Easy" saga. It is filled with our own stories and personal photos. It has been a real labor of love to work on. We are all excited to be playing together again. Even for only such a short time.

And what about your solo career ?
I seem to be getting busier and busier lately, which is wonderful. My goal is to put another Vaughn cd out in 2005, but also to do as much work on other projects as possible. I want to be involved in as many things as I can both as a writer and a singer and possibly even a producer, if I find the right band.

Tyketto will be on stage in Belgium in the near future. Is it Tyketto's reunion tour ?
It is the first time we have played together again since 1995. It will only be for 3 weeks and then we all go back to our regular lives, but if it works out, we may try it again in the future. I know that we have already received several offers to record another cd, but we're not thinking that far ahead. We just want to enjoy playing again without any added pressure.

What are your plans with From The Inside ?
From The Inside is a project, so I doubt that there will be any tours to support it, but I will definitely have to play some of the songs on my next Vaughn tour. There has already been talk of doing another one in the future.

Thank you for answering my questions. I hope to see you on stage soon. Good luck to you.
Thank you very much for your interest and all your support, Laurent. Hope to see you out there in November!
