In conjunction with Record Store Day, QUEEN fans are in for a rare treat as Hollywood Records releases "Queen's First EP", a little-known gem from the great British band. Never before released in America, the four-song CD EP consists of singles culled from four early QUEEN albums, and released on vinyl in 1977 exclusively in the U.K. A numbered, limited edition of "Queen's First EP" arrives in stores April 18, for the suggested list price of $6.98.
QUEEN drummer Roger Taylor said of the EP back in 1977, "We wanted to give people a taste of our first four albums." Included on the EP: "Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy", a QUEEN-produced Top 20 U.K. hit from the album "A Day at the Races" (released in December 1976); "Death on Two Legs (Dedicated to…)" from "A Night at the Opera" (released in November 1975); "Tenement Funster" from "Sheer Heart Attack" (released November 1974); and the extremely rare stand-alone single version of "White Queen (As It Began)", a track from "Queen II" (released February 1974). QUEEN and Roy Thomas Baker produced the latter three tracks.
QUEEN chose to re-release the EP on Record Store Day, an annual event saluting small independent record stores in the U.K. and the USA, held the third Saturday of April. In addition, QUEEN guitarist Brian May has donated one of his signed custom guitars to be the grand prize in a Record Store Day contest. It's a Brian May-designed White Special used in the German production of the hit stage show "We Will Rock You".
In other exciting QUEEN news, Sony Computer Entertainment America announced the upcoming North American release of SingStar Queen for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and PlayStation 2 computer entertainment systems. Available on August 18, SingStar Queen features 25 chart-topping QUEEN tracks, including "Another One Bites the Dust", "We Are The Champions", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Under Pressure" and many more. Players can choose songs to create their own personalized party playlists, providing a truly interactive singing experience. |

AFP reports that QUEEN guitarist Brian May will give his first-ever private lesson after a fan bid over 7,500 pounds (approximately $11,000) to jam with the star in an auction to raise money for Brazilian street children.
The rock legend, best known for creating the riffs on "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We Will Rock You", will deliver a two-hour tutorial at his home following the auction in London late Wednesday, which raised over 30,000 pounds. |
