JON OLIVA'S PAIN drummer Christopher Kinder has posted a lengthy update on the recording sessions for the group's third album. An excerpt follows:
"[Jon] Oliva [vocals] was here on Friday and will be back today to continue on the journey of keyboard, string, and special effects. His ability to create unlimited counter melodies within every song is awe inspiring. He plays violin and chelo like a real player would, and while we will have some live string players on this CD... no one will be able to tell the difference between the actual player and his expert keyboard string tracks.
"We should begin vocals in the next week or so. Oliva's voice is once again in perfect shape and the amount of backing vocals that we have to record will make us all dizzy before it is done. But, goddamn, is it cool! Zahner [keyboardist John Zahner] will be coming in at the end to add all the bells, whistles, B3 organ and whatever else we need.
"So it's back to the grind. Touring news will be available very soon. Expect a spring tour almost immediately after the release in April!" |

l'album prends forme, il serait assez proche du style Savatage, d'après le gratteux Matt LaPorte :
Guitarist Ralph Santolla (OBITUARY, ex-DEICIDE, DEATH, ICED EARTH) has recorded a guest appearance on the new JON OLIVA'S PAIN album, "Global Warning", playing lead on two songs: "Adding the Cost" and "You'll Never Know".
Comments JON OLIVA'S PAIN guitarist Matt LaPorte: "I am so psyched to have my buddy Ralph knock it outta the park on the new record. He might be the greatest lead guitarist in metal today — at least I think so." LaPorte adds that the new JON OLIVA'S PAIN record is more early-era SAVATAGE-like than even last year's "Maniacal Renderings". "A few of the riffs are taken from lost or never-released SAVA tunes," he says. "It's like stepping back in time, according to the big man, and it's quite an honor for me, as always, to play a part in fulfilling the destiny of these pieces of music."
With the new album's final tracking and mixing/mastering being finished up at Tampa's famed Morrissound studios in the next few weeks, the band plans on a spring 2008 European tour, some U.S. dates (including a co-headlining spot at ProgPower USA festival in Atlanta), as well as the European festival circuit in summer 2008.
In other news, Jon Oliva has issued the following statement regarding the current status of SAVATAGE:
"It has become necessary for me to set the record straight about any possible future SAVATAGE concert performances.
"After careful consideration by me, management and members of the band, I would like to make an official statement about the state of SAVATAGE. |

Hello to all!
The end of the recording process is now behind us!
I returned to Morrisound this evening to re-master the new disc.
This is not really that uncommon and since Tom and Jim Morris
have rightfully taken personal ownership of this CD, they and JOP
had to be sure that all of you got the music you so richly deserve!
I am not afraid to say that we had some issues concerning the first
pass at putting the sweet juices on top of what was already an amazing mix. Something got lost...but only for a moment. And while Oliva, Kevin and I were honestly freaking out, it was all for not as within 30 short minutes all was right with the world. Eternal thanks to everyone at Morrisound.
Some of these songs had over 100 tracks of recorded instruments, vocals, bells and whistles. So putting every sound in it's proper place
was a massive undertaking. Nothing could be sacrificed, and anyone who
has mastered a CD before will tell you that it can all be ruined at this final stage of the game. JOP and the Morris brothers would have none of that.
We have prevailed in blazing fashion. I am currently listening to the final CD mix while typing this update and I could not be happier with the production, and the performance of everyone in JOP. This is absolutely some of the best songs Oliva has ever written and the best record JOP has recorded imop!
It's heavy, epic, bluesy,emotional and will hopefully satisfy your musical senses as it has for us.
A slightly revised album cover will be posted on the JOP site in the next day or so. Check the main page for a nice big view of it and spread the photo and release far and wide.
Now on to phase 2...final CD preparation and promotion as we prepare for the release and the April/May tour.
A U.S tour plan is in the final phases and we are once again confident that everyone will be stoked about the line-up. Glenn and Intrometal will fill in the blanks very soon.
Locomotive will release the CD in the states following the Euro-release from AFM in early April. European Apil/May tour dates will be supported by Manticora & Masterstroke.

Oui j'aime beaucoup Jon Oliva je préféré bien-sur le Oliva des années 80 il faut déjé ecouté l'album Gutter Ballet entre autre qui est pour beaucoup un must - je trouve que le bougre dégage une sacré émotion aprés les gouts de chacun
