Timo a décidé de mettre fin à l'expérience strato, on s'en doutait après l'annonce de son nouveau groupe ...

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE REGARDING THE BREAK-UP OF STRATOVARIUS AND THE NEW BAND OF TIMO TOLKKI

After a long and careful consideration, Timo Tolkki has decided to end Stratovarius.
There are several reasons behind this decision that can be read on a official statement posted on Timo Tolkki’s Official Website: www. timotolkki. com

Timo has formed a new band called REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE, and in the silence he has been devoting all his time and efforts preparing the first release of his new band. The debut album is entitled ”New Era” and will be released on June 6th 2008 on Frontiers Records. The album is a masterpiece of melodic Power Metal, taking the listener straight back to the Visions-era Stratovarius. In fact, ”New Era” is the album that was meant to be the next Stratovarius album.

Instead, Timo called a few friends for the recording sessions and the album features all the lead vocals from such legends as Michael Kiske and Tobias Sammet, along with Timo’s blistering lead guitar lines and melodic Power Metal anthems that made him one of the pioneers of the style and trademark performers of the style. Revolution Renaissance witnesses a rebirth, a new era for Timo Tolkki and his music.

Tolkki is looking for a permanent line-up for the band, so if you are interested, check out the details on www. timotolkki. com for details on how to apply.

Guitarist Timo Tolkki — who announced on April 2 that STRATOVARIUS was no more — has issued the following update:

"First of all, many thanks for your mails and messages. They have been very supportive. I have also received some messages that are not so nice.

"Please do not make this a war because it is not. I do not want you to say bad things about TK [Timo Kotipelto; vocals] and Jörg [Michael; drums] etc.

"As I have written and what some people do not seem to understand, sometimes going away is the only solution to multiple problems one is facing. But you can do it with love and dignity. I decided to tell you much much more than the average 'we are breaking up because of musical differences.'

"There is no one single cause for the split, but as I wrote, it is a process of many years. So instead of channelling your energies in flaming wars or taking sides, why don't you try something else? Why don't you support every Stratomember and carry us through this with compassion and understanding instead of hate, anger and war? Most STRATO songs are about love and peace in some form anyway.

"Just give it some thought."

finalement, le groupe se sépare à l'amiable, Timo Tolkki autorise les autres membres à utiliser le nom de Stratovarius, ils l'en remercient, donc tout va bien ! :

STRATOVARIUS members Timo Kotipelto (vocals), Jörg Michael (drums) and Jens Johansson (keyboards) have issued the following open letter to guitarist Timo Tolkki, who drew up and signed an official waiver on May 20, 2008 giving up all rights to the STRATOVARIUS name.

"Dear Timo, we thank you for the waiver of your rights dated May 20, 2008 in the name STRATOVARIUS, and the gift of your share of the income from the back catalog.

"Technically and morally, none of us was in the position to alone give or withhold the name STRATOVARIUS. So, this certainly clarifies the situation, and we three thank you for that.

"Good luck with your projects in the future!"

An excerpt from Tolkki's original statement regarding the waiver follows:

"There will never be another STRATOVARIUS. It was a unique band and the name itself doesn't mean that it would bear the trademarks of STRATOVARIUS. It means more to me than money. It means the very essence of the message it has carried in my songs for 23 years. That is a very long time. My new band cannot replace STRATOVARIUS. Neither can any other band. My dignity prevents me from using that name without my ex-bandmembers. This is the contrary regarding the other guys and what they are intending to do. At this writing, they are most likely preparing all kinds of STRATOVARIUS releases that I blocked, out of the reasons that they did not have enough quality.

"Since I consider this a devastatingly disappointing and utterly disrespectful move, I am going to do something people don't probably expect from me.

"First of all, in my life philosophy, this kind of act is evil. And I do not want to have anything to do with evil. Although both moral and legal rights I own would easily grant me the rights to prevent the guys using the name STRATOVARIUS, I am going to do the opposite. I am going to give them full perpetual rights to the name and also I do not want to receive any money regarding record sales of the back catalogue or possible new products in which I am involved. Ever. You will find this letter that has been mailed to the STRATOVARIUS management with this statement. Simply, I dont want to have anything to do with that name in its present form, Jörg Michael, Timo Kotipelto and Jens Johansson ever again. The old records and their message speak for themselves. So the guys are free to use the name. I am doing this with a clear mind that everything that you put to the universe returns to you. And above all, I refuse to co-operate, negotiate or have anything to do with what I consider to be evil. And here is the very corporate money making machine in its full force exploiting the name, like it could really have the same meaning without me.

"I hope this letter clarifies some things from my side and I promise that this will be the last statement from my side. From now on I will let the music talk with my new band REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE that carries that spiritual essence of the Fleur de Lys. That's why it's in the logo. And, of course, we will play lots of STRATOVARIUS songs in the shows too.

"I wish you nothing but good things, blessings and much happiness. I thank you for a great life and I hope to see you somewhere along the road. Take good care of yourselves and I am very sorry that it had to end this way. When the curtain falls at the end of the day, it's only the music that counts. And you will get that from me in the future too."

Video footage of STRATOVARIUS performing a "new" song, "Last Night on Earth", during the band's appearance at last year's Wacken Open Air festival in Germany can be viewed below (the track eventually made it to the debut album from Tolkki's new group, REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE).

http://www.myspace.com/matiaskupiainen

Remaining STRATOVARIUS members Timo Kotipelto (vocals), Jens Johansson (keyboards), Lauri Porra (bass) and Jörg Michael (drums) have officially recruited Finnish guitarist Matias Kupiainen to replace the group's founding member and main songwriter Timo Tolkki. The news of Kupiainen's addition to the band was broken exclusively by Petri Silas of Finland's Soundi magazine, who spoke to both Kotipelto and Kupiainen for the publication's August 2008 issue (available on newsstands as of August 20).

Matias Kupiainen (MySpace page) is a 25-year-old native of Helsinki who has studied music theory and music technology in places such as the esteemed Sibelius Academy. He is heavily involved in making music for the upcoming album and used to be a big STRATOVARIUS and power metal fan around 10 years ago. Kupiainen co-owns a recording studio and is currently finalizing two solo projects: FIST IN FETUS and SHRED CIRCUS.

Kupiainen was bassist Lauri Porra's "find." When Lauri played bass as a member of the house band at the release party for the "Guitar Heroes" album last November in Helsinki, he took notice of the then-unknown Kupiainen.

Kotipelto tells Soundi magazine that Matias is probably the best guitarist he has ever seen and a fine addition to the ranks. He also confirms the rumor that Tuomas Wäinölä from his solo band KOTIPELTO was considered for the spot. However, the idea was soon rejected as this would in effect mean the merger of the two bands (Lauri plays bass in both groups and Jens Johansson has subbed for KOTIPELTO's Janne Wirman every once in a while).

Kotipelto goes on to correct some rumors that have generated from and around Tolkki:

1) Contrary to what Tolkki has said, there will not be a new album release from STRATOVARIUS this fall featuring the band's early lineup.

2) The band's deal with Sanctuary was not worth the three million Tolkki claimed it was upon its signing.

3) Kotipelto's reluctance to do a "STRATOVARIUS farewell world tour" didn't stem from any resentment towards Tolkki, but from the fact that without consulting anyone, Tolkki allegedly decided by himself that the farewell jaunt should be done with Jari Kainulainen, not Lauri Porra, on bass.

However, Kotipelto's attitude towards Tolkki in the Soundi interview is generally very respectful. He goes on record as saying that Tolkki has made a number of excellent power metal songs and was the leader of STRATOVARIUS for many years because of his prowess as a producer and a songwriter.

Both Kupiainen and Kotipelto describe the new material to Soundi as more aggressive and progressive than the last albums made with Tolkki at the helm. They are looking forward to presenting the stuff to Jörg Michael in September as the fivesome will begin rehearsing and maybe recording for the next release.

So far, the name issue is yet to be decided, i.e. the situation is the same as it was a couple of months ago — the guys have not yet decided whether to continue using the name STRATOVARIUS for their new band. Some of the members want to, some of them don't, some would opt for the short version STRATO, and for some of them it doesn't make a difference one way or the other.

le nouvel album, Polaris, c'est pour le 21 mai :

Finnish melodic metallers STRATOVARIUS will release their brand new studio album, "Polaris", on May 21. The CD — the group's first since the departure of guitar player and main composer Timo Tolkki — will be made available via the band's new label partner Edel under the new imprint earMUSIC outside of Asia and the band's longtime record company in Asia, JVC.

Commented keyboardist Jens Johansson: "We are very happy to have found strong label partners for the new era of STRATOVARIUS who truly believe in the band and are as enthusiastic as we are. I can't wait to hit the road again and meet all fans who supported us through all our good and bad times."

In September 2008, freed from many burdens of negativity, the band found the freedom to go into seclusion for almost a month in a cottage by the sea in a Finnish forest to relax, laugh, write songs, be creative together, and record. And they found themselves being a band reborn. The result is a melodic, powerful, fresh, tight, and technically elaborate new album.

"Polaris" was recorded in the fall 2008 at Hästholmen and 5by5 studios in Helsinki, Finland. Mixed by the longtime confidant of the band Mikko Karmila the album became another shining polar star at the Northern sky. Powerful melodies mingle with sophisticated arrangements, strong anthems stand alongside heavy songs. 11 songs full of energy, musicianship, and a positive outlook.

Vocalist Timo Kotipelto explains: "'Polaris' is a positive, powerful album that STRATOVARIUS fans all over the world are certain to take to their hearts."

The band will support the release of their new studio album with live shows around the globe. The world tour will start in the U.K., followed by a number of dates in continental Europe. September will see STRATOVARIUS playing live shows in Asia, followed by a full North and South American tour in September/October. A European headlining tour is scheduled for January 2010.

STRATOVARIUS' latest addition is 25-year-old Finnish guitar phenomenon Matias Kupiainen. Drummer Jörg Michael said, "In Matias we found new character who fits perfectly with his way of melodic guitar shredding. He is a killer player, a 'wunderkind' from Finland!"

Working songtitles that are set to appear on "Polaris" include:

* "King Of Nothing"
* "Eternal Life"
* "Something Precious"
* "I Am Blind"
* "Free Diving"

STRATOVARIUS 2009 is:

Timo Kotipelto - Vocals
Matias Kupiainen - Guitars
Lauri Porra - Bass
Jörg Michael - Drums
Jens Johansson – Keyboards
